Affidea Ireland celebrates International Women’s Day

We here at Affidea are proud to have over 260 female healthcare staff, with an even ratio for senior leadership, so we delivered some well-deserved treats to our teams to celebrate the day! Quality & Accreditation Manager Carol Tutty kindly shares her story to inspire others, while here’s a quick snapshot of just some of our other talented Superwomen!

Affidea’s Quality & Accreditation Manager Carol Tutty:

“In 1986, I qualified as a Registered General Nurse while working in St. James’s Hospital. Shortly after, I moved to London for ten years to gain more experience and it was there that I completed a Theatre / Anaesthetic Nursing Board Diploma.

I worked in Westminster Hospital Operating Theatres and Intensive Care, and I was part of the team responsible for the transferring of critically ill patients by air ambulances to specialised units both in the UK and abroad. This was both an exciting and challenging role, where my interest in patient safety and risk management increased.

I returned to Ireland to work in Tullamore General Hospital and then in Clane General Hospital as a Senior Staff Nurse, and progressed my career as Clinical Nurse Manager for Anaesthetics and Paediatrics.

During my role in Clane, a vacancy arose for a Quality and Risk Manager and as I had always been passionate about patient safety, risk management and quality, I was encouraged to apply and was delighted to be appointed to the role. I went on to complete a degree in Quality and Risk Management in Healthcare in UCD, and I also trained as an ISO Auditor.

I admit that going back to college in my late thirties was challenging while working full-time and balancing a young family, but with knowledge I gained confidence and now I am a strong advocate of continuous professional development for everyone.

I joined Affidea in 2017 as Quality Manager and Data Protection Officer. Personally, it was a big change as I was leaving a clinical role to working full-time in quality and risk management, but I have been given wonderful opportunities to work with so many diverse groups of people both in Ireland and in Europe.

I was honoured to become part of the Senior Management Team and the Executive Team. The role is challenging, with a lot of variety and travel, but it is extremely rewarding when I see the Affidea Vision coming to fruition, in addition to my part in delivering greater clinical governance, risk assessment, ongoing quality and GDPR.

I am truly proud of my achievements to date and of all the strong women I work with on a daily basis.
