Affidea Ireland Primary Schools Cross Country 2017
Affidea Ireland’s Primary Schools Cross Country event took place in the Carlow Hurling Club again this year, with a record turnout of nearly 1,000 athletes.
All six races were fiercely contested, with Olympian and Affidea Brand Ambassador Thomas Barr on hand to present medals to the top ten in each race and the top 3 school teams, with spot prizes for all finishers.
Thomas said on the day; “I had a great day meeting, greeting, presenting medals and posing for selfies, which reminded me of a typical wet cross country event! It was amazing to see such a large number of schools and students in the locality taking part in what was such a simple and effective event. It got kids active and out of the classroom, having fun.”
Affidea Client Relationship Executive Munster and Irish rugby legend David Corkery presented a €500 sports voucher from the #AffideaFmaily to the school who showed the greatest sportsmanship. He commented; “While all schools could have won this fantastic prize, the eventual winners were Gaelscoil Ceatharlach, with Head Teacher Ruairi O’Broin accepting the award for their continued support and efforts to bring over 160 kids out. The kids didn’t let the bad weather dampen their spirits and some even braved it out to run in their uniforms!”
John Hayden from St. Laurence O’Toole Athletic Club added; “Great credit must go to all the schools and their teachers, with help from Presentation College and Gaelcholaiste Carlow. Thanks also to Carlow Hurling Club for allowing us to use their fantastic grounds. The reaction from the kids, schools and parents was heart-warming, and they can’t wait until the next big event!”
Our #AffideaFamily is looking forward to tomorrow’s #PrimarySchoolsXC with @TomBarr247 & €500 for the winners from our own David Corkery! 🤸 https://t.co/6VvNSdJweA
