Affidea Letterkenny celebrates one year anniversary

Quick access and affordable MRI, Ultrasound and X-ray scans have never been as convenient for the people of the North West, thanks to Affidea, Ireland’s leading independent diagnostic imaging provider.

Formerly known as Euromedic, Affidea opened its new medical scanning facility in Letterkenny last July, investing €2m as part of an overall €15m investment in the Irish healthcare sector. Previously, patients in Donegal and the surrounding areas faced a two-hour drive to Sligo to have a private scan. Ten new jobs were created, with all positions held by local employees; many of whom returned home from Dublin and further afield including Scotland and Australia, to fulfil the positions.

Located at Scally Place off Pearse Road, Affidea Letterkenny is equipped with state-of-the-art technology including the high-specification Philips Ingenia Wide Bore MRI Scanner; providing the highest quality scans and a much-improved patient experience, particularly for patients who experience claustrophobia or those who find it difficult to tolerate the noise of older scanners.

Referrer Relationship Executive James Pat McDaid said; “Patients are using our services to their advantage to get diagnosed quickly, resulting in a huge difference to the outcome of their particular illness or injury. It is very simple to get a referral from your GP, physio or other health professional, and you can be seen within two days and have your results within 24 – 48 hours. The likes of this has never been seen in the North West and has been widely welcomed by many health professionals and patients.”

He continued; “I’ve personally spoken to many patients over the past year who just can’t believe how efficient the service is and how easy it is to access. The staff in the centre are so well organised and patients have minimal waiting times; often in and out of the clinic in thirty minutes, which is vital for people with busy schedules. Feedback from patients include comments like, “I was really impressed, despite my initial fears of claustrophobia. The front of house skills and the ladies on the MRI machine were wonderful, and I would highly recommend the experience.”
