CHLOE WATKINS: THE IMPORTANCE OF MRI SCANS FOR ATHLETES
Chloe Watkins, Irish Hockey Player & Olympic Silver Medallist, talks to us about the importance of MRI scans for elite athletes and how they have benefitted her in the past.
As an elite athlete, how have you benefited from MRI scans?
MRI scans play an integral role for athletes in terms of diagnosing injuries. Time is of the essence for an athlete especially when it comes to the competition season, when it is integral to be able to consistently train and compete. Having these diagnostic scans available can help significantly reduce time-out due to injury.
Why do you think MRI scans are so important for athletes?
MRI scans can help identify muscle tears, muscle weakness and other strains on the body and sports injuries that are hindering your performance. Identifying the problem quickly can help you get back on the road to recovery, while MRI scans also aid in the design of both training and physiotherapy programs. This helps to keep the athlete playing at a high level for an increased amount of time.
