Take the first step into the care of the NATIONWIDE Concussion Network
by completing an ImPACT® baseline test at your LOCAL AFFIDEA CENTRE
ImPACT® is a non-invasive, computerised physical examination of the brain that tracks memory, reaction time, speed and concentration. It objectively measures cognitive changes associated with a concussion that cannot be accurately measured by self-reported symptoms. ImPACT® is a scientifically-validated test based on currently accepted international guidelines and practices.
Concussions, while largely affecting athletes, can occur due to elderly falls, car accidents, child playground accidents, etc. If an individual is believed to have suffered a head injury, ImPACT® can help determine the initial severity of the head injury, diagnose the status of concussion and safely monitor the progression to full recovery.
With all the controversy around concussion in recent years, it is great to have somewhere to go now where concussion can be managed by medical professionals who know exactly what they are dealing with.
I want my kids to play rugby and GAA, but I also need to be conscious of the injuries that are associated with playing contact sports.
Having this nationwide service available in Affidea clinics around the country is a great comfort.
As a parent, this process is just as essential as making sure the boys have their gum shields for rugby or helmets for hurling in their gear bags before they leave the house.
I know that concussion will never be eradicated from sport, but should the need arise for my kids to require some form of medical intervention involving concussion, that A-Z pathway is now available.
The baseline test is something the lads will be taking each year.
