1. What’s your background?
I graduated from the University of Wales (Bangor) in 1995 and started my radiography career in The Mater Private Hospital, Dublin, where I received training in MRI, CT, Mammography and Nuclear Medicine. I moved to Dunmore East, Co. Waterford, in 2001 and started working in University Hospital Waterford. During this time, I completed my M.Sc. in Medical Imaging (MRI). I joined Affidea in June 2017 as Clinic Lead in their new centre in Waterford.
2. Why did you join #AffideaFamily?
I was delighted to get the opportunity to develop and lead a brand new clinic dedicated to providing a high quality service to people in my own local community. Business development and management have always interested me, and this position allows me to pursue and expand my skills in this area.
3. What differentiates us in your opinion?
Affidea constantly strives to improve and develop its services by investing in state-of-the-art equipment and creating a working environment of mutual respect, encouragement and teamwork. Every staff member is considered an integral part of this team and their input is valued. When employees feel valued they give 110% back, and this is reflected in the high quality service that’s offered to our patients. This is one of the reasons that Affidea is the largest and most successful medical service provider.
4. What does your average day look like?
An average working day for me would be spent between scanning patients, protocolling referrals, completing daily QA, following up clinical queries, auditing, staff management, and business development calls and meetings. Our MRI list runs from 8:30 to 4:30 with appointments every 15-20 minutes, and our Waterford clinic also offers Ultrasound, DEXA and X-ray appointments. My team is very motivated and work hard to ensure every patient receives the best possible care and attention, and I am very proud to be part of it.
5. How do you like to create a healthy work/life balance?
I’ve owned and ridden horses all my life and currently have five at home that keep me occupied in my spare time. Showjumping was my main passion until 2012 and I used to compete regularly. With a busy job and an equally busy home life with my husband and three children, I find it’s extremely important to make time for myself in order to relax, unwind and recharge.
