Record-breaking Relentless Rowers thank the #AffideaFamily!

The Affidea Ireland supported Relentless Rowers have finally returned to dry land following their new world record breaking crossing of the Atlantic in under 35 days, in aid of Cork University Hospital Paediatric Department through CUH charity.

The crew – made up of Cork doctors Sean Underwood and Pat O’Connor, podiatrist Eoin O’Farrell and entrepreneur Tommy Browne – landed in Antigua with an impressive time of 32 days, 22 hours and four minutes; appearing on The Late Late Show and Today With Maura & Daithi (32 minutes in) to discuss their journey. Read more about the race here.

Representative John Underwood commented on the crew; “The lads are extremely happy with the result as the race this year was the fastest that Talisker Whiskey have seen, with strong winds, fifty foot waves and two storms passing through, which took its toll on the boat and crew alike in varying degrees.”

“We would like to thank everyone for their help in getting to the start line, it was a serious boost to all concerned and it was always so rewarding to get a generous helping hand, especially working with our title sponsor Affidea. We weren’t just looking for sponsorship from our main contributor; we wanted to work with a company that was willing to get fully involved and behind the team, and help spread the word so everyone back home could be part of this adventure. Affidea lived up to our expectations and beyond, getting involved at breakneck speed from the off and never relenting, sharing the journey like one of the parents, so a hearty thanks from us all.”

He concluded; “As Ireland’s leading medical scan provider, I can recommend their new ExpressCare Clinic that’s just opened in Cork because you’ll be in very good hands and not just considered another statistic. Their research study on the crew’s body composition saw dramatic physical changes in the lads, with Eoin for example losing 8kg alone over the month. Finally, there’s still time to donate at www.relentless.ie, so help us surpass our €20,000 goal by hitting the €30,000 mark!”
