All examinations take place in HSE Community locations. When booking your appointment, our Schedulers will inform you of the necessary preparation required to perform the scan correctly.
All Ultrasound scans are reported on by FRCSI Consultant Radiologists and the report is then sent back to your GP. Please only contact Affidea for any queries related to your appointment.
Open only to patients over 16 years of age. All patients must bring a valid medical or GP visit card and proof of identity or we will be unable to conduct the scan.

A referral is sent from your GP to Affidea requesting the type of Ultrasound scan required

You will receive a text notifying you of the progress of your booking, once we have received your referral. There is no need to call us to confirm any booking details at this point.

Our team will call you to schedule an appointment. It is important that you fully understand what preparation is required for us to successfully complete your scan.

Once the appointment is arranged, you will receive another text confirming the appointment date, location and time.

Please arrive to your appointment 20 minutes in advance.

Ultrasound preparation
Pelvis

Patient must drink 1 litres of water and have it finished one hour prior to the appointment and hold until the scan is finished.

Renal

Patient must drink 750ml of water and have it finished one hour prior to the appointment and hold until the scan is finished.

Testes and Renal

Patient must drink 750ml of water and have it finished one hour prior to the appointment and hold until the scan is finished.

Abdomen

Patient must fast for 6 hours prior to the appointment – still water only.

Renal and Pelvis

Patient must drink 1 litres of water and have it finished one hour prior to the appointment and hold until the scan is finished.

Patient must drink 1.5 litres of water and have it finished one hour prior to the appointment and hold until the scan is finished.

Renal

Patient must drink 750ml of water and have it finished one hour prior to the appointment and hold until the scan is finished.

Testes

Patient must drink 500ml of water and have it finished 30 minutes prior to the appointment and hold until the scan is finished.

Abdomen

Patient must fast for 6 hours prior to the appointment – still water only.
